about Damien Hirst

Damien Hirst (born 1965) is a British artist and one of the most prominent figures associated with the Young British Artists (YBAs), who transformed the British art scene in the 1990s.
 
His work frequently explores death, mortality, religion, science and consumer culture, often through deliberately provocative or spectacular means. He became internationally famous for The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living (1991), a tiger shark preserved in formaldehyde.
 
Other notable works include his spot paintings, medicine cabinets and the diamond-encrusted human skull For the Love of God (2007). Hirst remains one of Britain’s most commercially successful and controversial contemporary artists.
