about Sue Williams A’Court

Sue Williams A’Court’s practice explores the visual sublime through painting, collage and drawing. She uses reimagined landscapes as spaces for encounter and contemplation, treating landscape not as a record of place but as a way to describe states of mind. Drawing on historical sources, she reframes familiar imagery in new contexts.

Her practice has been recognised through major exhibitions and prizes, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (2013, 2015, 2022, 2024, 2025) and the Jerwood Drawing Prize (2013); she was shortlisted for the Columbia Threadneedle Prize (2014) and Jackson’s Art Prize (2021), and won the FID International Drawing Prize (2017). Recent exhibitions include Escape From Eden at Saatchi Gallery, London (2017) and Pulse New York (2016), where she received a Pulse Prize; she has also shown in curated group exhibitions at the Royal Academy and Paul Smith Space, and her work is held in the collection of The Dorchester, London.
