about Sam Wood

Sam Wood is an English artist living and working in London. Gloucester Room regularly exhibits and holds a selection of paintings and works on paper by Sam Wood, whose work explores the natural world and the urban environment, with subject matter ranging from sprawling gardens to grand hotels.

Central to Wood’s practice is the importance of drawing, in both dry and wet media. Broad brushstrokes of diluted oil paint underpin lyrical linework in soft pastel, while joyful, saturated colours create a sense of restless energy. His paintings and works on paper capture gardens, interiors, architecture and urban life with a distinctive combination of observation, colour and movement.

Wood’s work is also showcased through commercial commissions and collaborations with brands and design studios internationally. Recent commissions include work for Claridge’s Hotel, Belmond Group, Harrods, Raffles London and Billecart Salmon Champagne.
